The sense of wonder the Array has inspired in Carl Sagan and many others is evident in the quote from Sagan’s book “The universe is a pretty big place. If it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space.”
This week the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) will be hosting a conference to commemorate VLA’s 40 year anniversary. While the virtual conference registration closed early at maximum capacity, registration is still open for the free virtual tour this Saturday, August 7 1:00PM to 2:30PM MDT.
For more information about current news and discoveries related to the VRA, see the NRAO’s blog. Also see the NRAO Visitor Center’s film (24 minutes), which provides a glimpse into the inspiration for the construction of the Array, how it operates, and some of the discoveries it has lead to.
