    ORCID

    Open Researcher and Contributor ID

ORCID is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from other researchers. It is integrated with key research workflows such as grant submission and automatically links you to your professional activities and scholarly publications. ORCID ensures that your work is recognized.

The Research Library is a member of the US Government ORCID Consortium and therefore has access to ORCID API features, functionality, and technical support. The ORCID @ LANL website serves as a dashboard for LANL staff offering various services such as:

    • creating an ORCID for new users
    • connect an existing ORCID with the LANL dashboard
    • Retrieving, viewing, and editing ORCID profile information

How do I personalize my ORCID record?

You can enhance your ORCID profile with professional information and links to websites and other identifiers, such as Scopus, ResearcherID, and LinkedIn. To begin select the “Update” button on the ORCID dashboard.

    Types of information to include:

    • Published name
    • Other names
    • Biography
    • Keywords about your research
    • Websites
    • Social media accounts
    • Other researcher identifiers
    • Email addresses

Account holders can set different privacy settings for each type of information they include.

For more information see ORCID’s Building Your ORCID Record.

How do I add works to my ORCID record?

ORCID allows users to import their publications from outside databases. To begin select the “Import Works” button from your dashboard.

    IMPORT TOOLS

CrossRef Metadata Search — Import metadata on journal articles, conference proceedings, and monographs.

ResearcherID — Import your ResearcherID profile and citations.

Scopus to ORCID — Import your Scopus Identifier profile and citations.

These tools may find works associated with other researchers who share a similar name. Be sure to check and confirm each imported work.

    MANUALLY ADDING WORKS

Unable to find a publication? Add works yourself by clicking the ‘Add Work Manually’ button on your dashboard. You will see a list of fields to complete. For more information see ORCID’s Add Works To Your ORCID record page.

What does ORCID do with my personal information? Is it secure?

    RESEARCHER PRIVACY

While ORCID Records hold only non-sensitive information such as name, email, organization, and research activities, researchers have options to control their profile, manage their data privacy, and limit how their data is shared.
